The Dunlap Reporter dated January 20, 2003:Funeral services were held for Dale M. Melby Wednesday morning, January 22, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier with Pastor Jack Torgersen officiating. Music was provided by Gilma Gibbs and Becky Marcum. Congregational hymns included “Jesus Loves Me” and “Amazing Grace”. Vocal selection was “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Interment was at Soldier Lutheran Cemetery in Soldier. Pallbearers were Darrell Andrews, Ronnie Hull, Duane Melby, Harold Melby, Frank Plain, Paul Weber. Fouts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dale M. Melby was born September 8, 1925 in Moorhead to parents Adolph and Lena (Evenson) Melby. He grew up in the Moorhead and Soldier area.
Dale served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On January 19, 1952, Dale married Margaret Mahlberg. They lived in Woodbine and Dale worked with Cash DeLance as a carpenter. In 1962 Dale started working on his own until his son, Mike, joined him. These two were partners until 1996.
Dale died on Monday, January 20, 2003, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 77 years, four months and 12 days.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; an infant baby sister, an infant sister, Mabel and infant brother, Vernon; three brothers Kenneth, Willard and Leonard; four sisters, Mildred Andrews, Gilma Burson, Agnes Weber and Lorraine Price.
He is survived by his son Mike of Woodbine; two grandchildren, Bret and his wife Michelle of Ames and Jason and his wife Amber of Omaha, Neb.; three great-grandchildren,Haley, Grace and Reece; one brother, Arnold Melby of Onawa and one sister, Edna Hull of Moorhead and many other relatives and friends.
