Elmer Theodore Johnson, 90, lifelong resident of Sloan, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 1978 at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa.
Elmer was born August 25, 1888, in rural Sloan, Ia, to John and Matilda Johnson. On September 30, 1909, he married Amelia Sophia Brenden at Sioux City, Iowa. He was a member of the Sloan Evangelical Covenant Church.
Survivors include three sons, Ellerd (Buck), Clyde (Snowball) and Herbert all of Sloan, one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Davis of Sioux City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Amelia, his parents, three brothers, five sisters, and one daughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the Swedish Evangelical Covenant Church at Sloan, Ia. Rev. Edward Moberg officiated. Miss Lillian Peterson was pianist and accompanied Mr. & Mrs. Ron Ernst. Song selections were "No Night There" and "He, the Pearly Gates Will Open". Pallbearers were Carl Carlson, Gale Redmond, Norman Westergaard, Frank Johnson, Donald Lander and Carroll Koenig. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery at Sloan. Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
