17 January 1907Jacob Fegenbush
Much surprise was manifested at the sudden death of Jake Bush as he was familiarly known, residing west of town in Maple township, when the news was brought into town Sunday evening. His illness with pneumonia had been reported a few days previous, and the disease fastened itself on him with much tenacity that no effort could shake it off.
Jacob Tobias Fegenbush was born in Jackson County, Indiana, October 24, 1844 and died Sunday, January 13, 1907. He was married to Phoebe Golden, May 18, 1866 and has been a resident of Monona County for a period of fifty years, or since the early days of 1857. He served two years from 1862 to 1864, with the Iowa State Malitia, being stationed at Correctionville under Capt. J.M. White and Col J.M Sawyer. His old friend Park Ordway was also a corporal in this company, whose business it was to protect the settlement of Western Iowa from the Indians.
Most of his time in this county was spent in the vicinity of Whiting where the family is now well represented and highly respected. He came to this vicinity four years ago and made friends everywhere his acquaintance extended.

The remains were taken to Whiting, Monday morning and interred in the Hite Cemetery without ceremony. A funeral service will be held later when the relatives can attend with more convenience.
