Mrs. Frank Spencer Dies At Hospital

Has For The Last Few Years Been A Resident Of Castana

Underwent an Operation at Battle Creek Which She Could Not Withstand-Leaves A Husband and two Small Children to Mourn her Death

On Sunday evening the vicinities of Castana and Turin were deeply grieved when the news came over the wire from Battle Creek, announcing the sad death of Mrs. Frank T. Spencer who had went for treatment and an operation. Mrs. Spencer had been in ill health and it was found that an operation was necessary in order to give her relief at all, however the operation did not prove successful and she passed away at the hospital in that town on Sunday. The remains were brought to Castana on Monday and the funeral services were conducted from that town on Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’clock by Rev. Calkins, of Castana, and burial was made in the Belvidere cemetery.

Minnie Fredrica Howe, daughter of J. L. Howe was born in Levana, Cayuga County, New York, January 14th, 1855. She lived with her father in New York, until the year 1868 when she moved west with him locating at Onawa, Iowa. Later her father moved from Onawa to Michigan where she met and became the bride of Frank T. Spencer. After the marriage to Mr. Spencer, the young people desired again to return to Iowa and arrived here in 1881 and since that time have made their home in Monona County. For a number of years Mr. Spencer managed the large Day & Hansen farm south of Turin and only a few years ago moved to Castana where they have lived since. Two children were born to this happy union, Mrs. William Rue who lives at Turin and Julia who has been staying at home.

Mrs. Spencer was a loveable women and her demise will be keenly felt in the community in which she has lived these many years. She was an ardent worker in a Turin Society, keeping her membership with the organization even after her removal to Castana. Mr. Spencer and children have the sincere sympathy of their large ciecle of friends.
