WHITING, Iowa -- Leland P. "Dode" Allen, 85, of Whiting died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Whiting Christian Church, with the Rev. Rusty Hedger officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. followed by a prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Leland was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Glen and Mabel (Solien) Allen. He was raised in the Whiting area and graduated from Whiting High School in 1936 as valedictorian.
He married Vivian Miltenberger on Feb. 10, 1940, in Le Mars, Iowa. He was a lifelong farmer. Vivian passed away Jan. 3, 2000, in Sioux City.
He was a member of Whiting Christian Church, a 50-year member of Mason of Weston Lodge 562 A.F. & A.M. of Whiting and enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Stoulp of Sloan, Iowa, Patricia and her husband, Walt Peterson of Whiting and Julie and her husband, Mark Haindfield of Salix, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Greg, Lisa and Ray Stoulp, Mark and Todd Peterson, Kelley (Peterson) Wirges, Matthew and Ryan Haindfield and Sarah (Haindfield) Jewett; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Genevieve and her husband, Tom Flannery of Hinton, Iowa, Betty Schneider and Mona Lou and her husband, Tom Uhlarik, all of Chicago, Ill.; and a brother and his wife, Wayne and Sally of Pender, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Vivian; two brothers, Dorance and Robert; a granddaughter, Shauna Haindfield; a great-granddaughter, Kirsten Stoulp; and a son-in-law, Jerry Stoulp.
