Obituary of Mrs. Sena Carlson Day

Mrs. Sena Carlson Day the daughter of John and Anna Marie Johnson was born near Moorhead, Iowa on July 11, 1877. She died Saturday, December 25th, 1954, in the Onawa hospital. She had been in failing health for a year, and critically ill for three years.

She was brought up in the Ingeman Lutheran church in the valley west of Moorhead. On August 3, 1894, she was married to Nels Carlson. They lived together Thirty-four years, and until his death in 1928. To them were born four children. In 1914 they moved to Blencoe and this was her home for the last 40 years of her life. After 12 years of widowhood, she was married on December 7, 1939 to I.O. Day. Mr. Day died ten years later in 1950, in Blencoe. Mrs. Day was affiliated with the Congregational church and was a faithful worker being active in the Ladies Aid Society.

Surviving her is her daughter, Mrs. Hugh Gray of Blencoe: Ray Carlson, of Blencoe, and Harry Carlson of Moorhead, Iowa: six grand children, seven great grand children. She leaves two brothers and two sisters: Peter H. Johnson, of Onawa: John J. Johnson of Fresno, Calif: Mrs. Emma Oakland of Fresno, Calif: and Mrs. Martha Tanner, of Fort Lauderdale Florida: her son Earl died in 1940.

Mourning her passing also are her step daughters, the children of Mr. Day” Mrs. Beulah Andrews, Mrs. Dorothy Campbell, Mrs. Jewell Campbell, all of Slater, Mo.

Mrs. Day was a devoted mother, a friendly neighbor well beloved and highly regarded by her family and the community. She loved her church and was in attendance when able up to the last Sunday before her fatal illness.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday December 28th at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church in Blencoe, with Rev. Barney Crockett conducting the services. A duet composed of Mrs. Lois Rock, and Marion Sanders sang” Abide With Me” and “Beautiful Isle” accompanied by Mrs. Harry Williams.

Bearers were Orville and Arthur Johnson, Merrill, Gene and Gary Carlson, and Hugh Gray Jr. Interment was in the Onawa cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
