James F. Cooper

James Fenimore Cooper, an attorney in Onawa, Iowa for many years, passed away at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, onDecember 13, 1977 following a brief illness. Death came at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 29 days.

He was born at Mapleton, Iowa on May 14, 1896, the son of Cyrus E. Cooper and Anna Griffin Cooper and was a lifelong resident of Monona County. He served in the United States Navy diring World War I, and later attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion where he was graduated from the law school January 25, 1925 at Sioux City, Iowa. Mrs. Cooper preceded him in death on July 22, 1962.

Jim was a member of the Onawa United Church of Christ Congregational, David McNeill American Legion Post #129 at Onawa, Vesper Lodge #223 at Onawa and the Sioux City Consistory. He was active in Republican Party Politics for many years and served for five years as Onawa Postmaster and Rural Mail Carrier.

He is survived by one daughter, Miss Marianne Cooper, of Onawa as well as a number of other relatives.

Services were Friday, December 16, 1977 at 2 p.m. at the U.C.C.Congregational at Onawa, Iowa with Rev. William Bessmer officiating.
