Old Time Ute Man Died Here Monday

Lemuel R Sumner an old time resident of Ute, Iowa died Monday May 31st 1954. He had been in failing health for some time, he entered the hospital on last Thursday.

Mr. Sumner was born September , 16, 1869 in Appanoose County, Iowa and had been a resident of Monona County for the past 75 years. He was a carpenter by trade and at one time was deputy sheriff of Monona County under Sheriff Elmer Strain.

He made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kelly of Onawa.

Survivirs include one brother, Jonathan Sumner who resides in Missouri and a number of cousins residing at Ute.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 2nd, 1954 at 2:00 p.m. at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cummins in Ute. Rev Everett Epperson of the Onawa Christian Church officiating at the funeral service.

Burial was made in the St Clair Cemetery at Ute with arrangements by the Pierson Funeral Home of Onawa.
