William Boyd, 79, of Whiting, Died April 17
William Boyd, 79, a long time resident of the Whiting community and one of the best known citizen, passed away on Saturday, April 17th, 1954 at the Onawa hospital after an illness extending over a period of time.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Whiting on Monday under the direction of the Wood Funeral home, the pastor of the church officiating at the service. Burial was made in the Harrison Cemetery with Masonic rites.
Mr Boyd was born October 26, 1874 at Dorsey, Illinois. He came to the whiting community at the age of 14 years and had since made his home in that vicinity.
He married Leora Polly on February 25, 1903 and he is survived by his widow: two sons Darold of Whiting and Alton of Burlington, Iowa and also twin grandsons.
Mr Boyd had in past years taken a very active part in the civic and church affairs of the Whiting area. For many years he had served as Elder in the Christian Church and was a member of the church board. He was a Mason and also held membership in the Consistory.
He was a kind and considerate man and had during his long residence in the Whiting community won for himself hundreds of close friends.
