The sad news of the death of Mrs. Carrie Fessenden, former Onawa citizen, reached this office the latter part of the week. Mrs. Fessenden recently fell and broke her hip and was confined to the hospital, where she passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 1954 after a short illness.
Mrs Fessenden was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Flink, early pioneers of Onawa. She spent her youn womenhood here and a part of her married life. She had been a resident of Sioux City for the past 25 years.
Mrs Carrie Flink Fessenden was born May 11, 1873 in Onawa, Iowa and was married to Helon B Fessenden on July 18, 1895. Mrs Fessenden died January 29, 1933 in Onawa.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Onawa and was a past matron of the Star here. She was also a member of the Onawa Woman's Club and the Congregational Church in Onawa.
Her survivors are a daughter, Mrs Harold Polien of Onawa: a son, Rex of Sioux City: six grandchildren and two great grandchildren besides her brother, ALfred Flink, who resides at Jacksonville, Florida.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fessender were held on Friday at the Nelson-Berger Funeral Home, Sioux City and graveside services were held at the Onawa Cemetery at 2 p.m. Rev. W.R. Moore of Sioux CIty officiating. Burial was made in the family lot in the Onawa Cemetery.
