Wehn, George H., Rev.

The Rev. Geo. H. Wehn, retired minister of the Nebraska conference, passed away at his home Saturday morning, Aug. 31, 1935. For several months he had been in failing health. Two weeks ago he fell and fractured a hip and the shock was too severe and despite the efforts of loved ones and physicians he did not recover.

Rev. Wehn was born at Johnstown, PA., July 16, 1847. When only 10 years old the God who has been the moving power of his life for three quarters of a century touched his heart, and from that time forth he lived to serve his maker. Early in life he felt the call to the ministry and after his schooling at Ohio Wesleyan and Evanston, ILL., he was admitted as an Elder in the church in Nebraska. He was not alone in his life work, as he soon returned for his boyhood sweetheart, Sue Hartzell, and since that time she has shared his joys and sorrows. To an unusual extent they were devoted to each other. He once told loved ones near him "She has been the power and ever-sustaining influence in my earthly life".

He was an active minister in the church for more than 45 years and was instrumental in building several new churches.

Before he failed in health he had planned his funeral service. He wanted one of his former pastors, Rev. G.W. Dunn of Ida Grove, to present the message. The songs he selected were "In the Sweet Bye and Bye", "The Home Over There", and "Jesus Lover of My Soul". The scripture, the 84th Psalm.

Rev. C.E. Stevens and Dr. O.M. Bond of Sioux City, assisted in the service.

Rev. Wehn is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son, several grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Pearce of Boise, Idaho. These all bear testimony to his unfailing Christian spirit and life.

"Servant of God, well done".
