Torgerson, Marion

Marion Torgerson of Ute, youngest son of Mr. And Mrs. Martin Torgerson of Soldier, met a tragic death Saturday forenoon which he was hauling railroad ties to his home in Ute. As we understand it he was riding on top of the load and jumped when the ties started to roll off. Two of them hit him on the head. He died within a few minutes. He was working with the section foreman at the time and the accident happened near the Milwaukee depot.

His death is indeed a shock as he was in the prime of life and leaves a wife and three children, the youngest only nine months old.

Marion grew to manhood in the Soldier community and has a host of relatives and friends here who mourn his loss deeply. His parents moved to Soldier last spring from the farm in Jordan Township.

Marion Clifford Torgerson, youngest son of Mr. And Mrs. Martin Torgerson, was born April 8, 1909 near Soldier. He passed away at Ute, Iowa, June 23, 1945 at the age of 36years, two month and 14 days. On February 4, 1923 he was confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Hartigan on January 24, 1934. To this union four daughters were born—Norma, who died in infancy, Carole 10 years, Marlene seven years, and Sharon nine months.

Besides his loving wife and small daughters, he leaves to mourn his loss, his parents of Soldier, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Soren P. Sorenson of Moorhead, Iowa, one brother, Alvin of Fremont, Nebr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marion grew to manhood in and around Soldier. The first few years after their marriage they lived on a farm north of Soldier, later moving to Ute where they have resided the past eight years.

He was a very likeable person and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Blessed be his memory.

Funeral services were held from Soldier Lutheran Church Monday, June 25 with Rev. Hoff officiating. A full church attended. Burial was in St. Clair cemetery at Ute.
