Dave L. Phipps, 18, of Ute, Iowa, died Friday, October 25, 1985, of injuries suffered in a two-car accident east of Ute.

He was born July 14, 1967, at Onawa, Iowa, to Donald Lee and Bonnie (Parr) Phipps and was a lifelong resident of Ute. His father preceded him in death in January 1969. He was a senior at Charter Oak-Ute Community High School and was employed at Mordhorst Hog Confinement Co. at Ute. He was affiliated with the Ute Christian Church and a member of Future Farmers of America. He was a hunting, fishing and motorcycle enthusiast.

Survivors include his mother, Bonnie Phipps and his stepfather, Jack Carlson, both of Ute; six brothers, James L. Phipps of Denison, Patrick L. Phipps of Sioux City, Michael S. Phipps of Fort Collins, Colorado, Rick Phipps of Tampa, Florida, Russell Phipps of Montgomery, Alabama, and Buddy Huntley of Yukon, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mrs. Larry (Helen M.) Riley of Yukon, Mrs. Dale (Phyllis A.) Boeck of Fort Collins, and Mrs. Scott (Rhonda) Kragel of Charter Oake; and his maternal grandparents Charles and Louise Parr of Onawa, and his step-grandmother, Violet Quandt of Ute.

He was preceded in death by his father, his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Phipps and one nephew.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 1985, at Charter Oak-Ute High School Auditorium at Charter Oak, Iowa with Rev. Mark Smeltzer officiating. Mrs. Charles Dommer, the pianist accompanied Kristin Kuhlmann who sang “One Day At A Time” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Korey Meseck read the poem “The Pain of Life” written by Dave L. Phipps.

Honorary bearers were David Mesenbrink and Brian Kragel.

Active bearers were Bruce Mohr, Kevin Savery, Chris Mumm, Mark Berens, Joel Peterson and Todd Klockgether.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery.
