McShannon, Anna (Christensen)~ 1983

Anna Christina McShannon, Soldier, Iowa, passed away April 30, 1983, at Burgess Memorial Hospital at Onawa, Iowa. She had reached the age of 95 years, 4 months, and 13 days.

She was born December 17, 1887, at Panama, Iowa, to Chris and Mary Christensen. On October 7, 1913, she was united in marriage with William McShannon at Onawa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1970. They had farmed east of Soldier for 40 years, retiring in 1965. The last two and a half years she had resided at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting.

She was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church Women, the Soldier American Legion Auxiliary of Soldier Valley Post No. 462, and was a Gold Star Mother.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Hersel (Jeanette) Hanson and Mrs. Omar (Mary Ann) Nelson, both of Soldier, Iowa, and Mrs. Lester (Florence) Saxon, Sherman, Texas, three sisters, Nina McMinimee, Denison, Iowa, Mrs. (Blanche) Anderson, Sloan, Iowa and Bessie Curnes, Winterset, Iowa, six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, John in World War II, and Donald as an infant, two brothers, and two sisters.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 1983, at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Rev. William Carter officiating. Mrs. Ivan Gibbs, the organist, played the selection “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. The congregation sang “Rock Of Agens”(sic).

Bearers were George Blume, Bryce Lee, Harlow Wingate, Gordon Clemon, Lyle Meadows, and Lowell Amunson.

Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier.
