Oscar Navrude, 85, Onawa, died on Sunday, September 1, 1985, in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a sudden illness.
He was born at Soldier, on May 23, 1900, the son of Swen and Soffie Soffebroten Navrude. He married Hazel Evenson March 17, 1926, at Soldier. To this union were born four children. He farmed near Soldier until 1969 when he retired and moved to Onawa. He married Adelia Jane Bolles March 11, 1962 at Sioux City.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa. He had served as deacon and trustee for the Soldier Lutheran Church for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife, Adelia, two sons, Stanley Navrude of Sioux City, two step-daughters, Mrs. Lavern (Onamae) Goettsch of Holstein and Mrs. George (Ada) Via of Sioux City; three stepsons, Clyde Bolles, Charles Bolles and Duane Bolles, all of Sioux City, eight grandchildren, seventeen step-grandchildren and twenty-one step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Evonne, an infant son; three brothers, Sigard, Alvin and Andrew; and three sisters, Emma, Inga and Hannah.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1985, at Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, with Rev. Quentin Quanbeck officiating. The organist, Mrs. Syril Brown, played “Peace in the Valley” and “In The Garden”.
Active bearers were Gordon Walker, Harlow Wingate, Kenneth Lee, Lowell Amunson, Oscar Foss, and Ted Rothe. Honorary bearers were Clayton Swenson, Andrew Ballantyne, Burdette Nelson and Eugene Sexton.
Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Church Cemetery, Soldier, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
