McDole, Wilton ~ 1985

Wilton M. McDole was born on May 17, 1910 near Dunlap, Iowa, the son of Asa and Bess M. Gorham McDole. He died Wednesday morning, October 16, 1985 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 75.

Wilton spent his formative years on his family’s farm near Dunlap. He received his early education in the rural schools near his home. He later attended the Soldier public schools, graduating from the Soldier High School.

Wilton was united in marriage to Genevieve Knutson on December 31, 1930 in Onawa. Together they made their home on the McDole family farm where Wilton was raised. Genevieve died on September 22, 1975. Wilton continued to make his home on the farm until retirement in 1980.

On February 14, 1980, Wilton was united in marriage to Delores Kroeger in Denison. Together they made their home in Denison.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Wilton was preceded in death by a brother, Warren in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Delores of Denison, a son, Roger and wife Marilyn of Soldier, a granddaughter, Cheryl, Mrs. Brad Nickolisen of Moorhead, and a grandson, Douglas McDole of Soldier. He is further survived by four sister, Marilla, Mrs. Harlow Wingate of Soldier, Ruth, Mrs. Ernie Renz of Woodbine, Laura, Mrs. John Lawson of Urbandale, Iowa, and Margaret, Mrs. Marion Reimer of Atlantic, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 18, 1985, at 1:30 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Interment was at the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery near Soldier. The Rev. Larry Sydow officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for the vocal quartet of Gordon Foss, Gordon Swenson, James Severson and Gene Brenden. Hymns for the services included “How Great Thou Art” and “Peace in the Valley”.

Serving as pallbearers for the services were Lyle Carritt, Jeff Swenson, Virgil Olson, Russell Gorham, Arnold Casperson, and Arnold Melby.

Funeral Arrangements(sic) were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.
