Arnold and Gladys Amunson, p 87-88

Arnold and I were married at my folk’s home (William A. and Emma Gibbel Gantz), August 9, 1933. I was born August 15, 1909 at Onawa, and went to rural school there, then high school, graduating in 1929. In those days we drove ponies to school instead of cars. I had a brother, Amos and sister, Lucille.

Arnold was the son of Casper and Anne Severson Amundson. He was born February 7, 1905. He had four sisters, Alice, Myrtle, Edith, and Helen. Arnold farmed until ill health forced him to retire and we then moved to Ute. He passed away February 7, 1975, after heart surgery.

We had two sons, Arlen Casper born May 14, 1934. He was a very active boy, like farming, baseball, and music. In 1950 he contracted bulbar polio and only lived a week. His death was a shock to the community. Dennis William was born March 10, 1947. He also had polio. We took him to three doctors and they didn't know what he had until Arlen got it a few weeks later. It affected his right foot but not seriously. He is very active – loves to hunt and fish. Dennis married Cheryl Jean Hull, daughter of Frank and Lucille Ulmer Hull, at the Moorhead Christian Church, March 15, 1969. Dennis graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School in 1965 and Cheryl from East Monona. They have a home in Omaha where Dennis works for General Electric and Cheryl for Northwestern Bell. I am still living in Ute, but attend the Lutheran Church in Soldier.
