Arnt and Andrine Amunson came to the United States in 1870 from Eidskog, Norway by sailboat. It took them 14 weeks to cross the ocean. They arrived in Dunlap, Iowa by train and then walked from there to Soldier carrying their belongings with them. Accompanying them was their oldest daughter, Anne. They had lost one son at sea. They made their home with Mrs. Amunson’s brother, Hans Severson.
Arnt was a hired hand on different farms until he started farming for himself. They build the first sod house they lived in about 1 mile south of where the present house is located on the Amunson farm. Later they built a log house. Their son, Casper, was born in the sod house. Their other children were Amelia, Tillie, Anne, Olaf, and 1 son, Alfred William born Oct. 4, 1874 and passed away March 24, 1878.
Arnt Amunson’s father, Amund Lohoiden passed away in Norway. His mother, Karen Amunson, came to this country in 1905 and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Chris Norby. Karen’s children were all over here. Arnt’s sisters were Mary Amunson Newhouse, Oline Amunson Norby, Anne Amunson Holt, and Julia Amunson Foss. Arnt was born April 28, 1844 and was killed by a cyclone on April 28, 1899.
Andrine Severson Amunson was born May 30, 1839 and died March 8, 1925.

Casper married Anne Marie Severson; Olaf married Honora Clemon; Tillie married Ole Longlee, Amelia married Even Ulven; Anne married Casper Hanson, they had one daughter Alma Hedrick who married Hans Steen.
The Amunson farm is still in the Amunson family. The present owner, a grandson, Clifferd Amunson, is selling the farm to a nephew, Ronald Amunson, son of Kermit Amunson.
