Milton Laverne Amunson, the eighth child of Olaf and Honora Amunson, was born August 9, 1920 at the family farm east of Soldier. He attended the Meadow’s country school and Soldier High School. After graduating from high school, he assisted his father with the work on the farm.
On February 17, 1945 he was married to Hazel Eulinger, a native of Maysville, Missouri. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on April 1, 1945. After completion of his training he served with the Sea-bees on Guam. On April 2, 1946 he was discharged from the service and returned to Soldier to live.
He worked for the Soldier Locker for one year. In January 1947, Dale Alan was born. In February of 1948, the family moved to the farm in Jordan Township where they have since resided. Twin boys, David Lloyd and Donald Paul, were born on June 12, 1951.
The three sons have attended Iowa State University at Ames. Dale taught in the Clarksville, Iowa school system for 10 years. He and Nancy Eckhoff of Allison, Iowa were married in 1975. They have one son, Erik Dale, who was born February 19, 1981.
Donald and David are the owners of a construction business that specializes in farm buildings.
Milton is the holder of a U.S. Patent for a device which he invented and sold to Arts-Way Manufacturing Company of Armstrong, Iowa for use on the grinder-mixers that they make.
