I finally did locate the origin of the "Lysager" name. As you had stated it is/was a farm in Norway. It's interesting that after Halvor settled in the Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa in the summer of 1854 that the Lysager was dropped between then and just less than ten years later. The baptismal certificate of Caroline Anderson actually shows her name as Karoline Lysager. In the 1856 census for the area there is a listing under house #16 of Halvert Anderson Lysager, farmer, naturalized voter, member of the malitia, and land owner; it also shows an M. Lysager, married to Halvor, which I beleive to be Maren Anderson (maiden name Pederson/Pedersdatter). However there are two additional Lysager's listed to be living in house #16. It only lists the intial of the first name and ages, which I beleive are 10 years old and 23 years old. Halvor and Maren were married in September 1853 in Milwauikee, Wisconson, and I don't beleive that the first child was born until 1854. There is record that I found which talks about the settlement of Otranto Township, now one of Mitchell Counties ghost towns, in 1853. It lists out the original settling families and then goes on to talk about the families who followed and settled in 1854 with Halvor Anderson and family mentioned. I know that they had 12 childern with one passing in infancy; however, the only one of the 12 children that I can find no record of after age 6 is Hans. I know that one of the sons moved and settled in Beaumont, Texas. He worked for an oil company and died at the age of 70, and another of the sons lived in Wahoo Nebraska and passed away in Colon. I am still working my way through letters and family documents, the few that I have. One letter from Caroline's sister, Mina or Julia, talks about an aunt in Norway. Most of the family is buried in Mitchell County Iowa or Lyle Minnesota, besides the sons in Texas and Nebraska. So if any one out there knows anything about Halvor, Maren, Caroline, Bordine (Belle), Bernhard, Nils, Mina, Julia, Hanna, Hans, or other Anderson/Lysager's from Mitchell County Iowa, Lyle Minnesota, Beaumont, Texas, Colon/Wahoo Nebraska, Chehalis Washington, I would love to hear from you.
