Death After Long Illness

Dies After Months of Suffering From Cancer

Sunday morning at 6:30 o'clock death came as a blessed release to Sumner Marion Dodge after months of intense suffering from cancer. He had spent most of his life in this community, and was known and respected by a large circle of friends, who will miss his kindly presence from our midst.

Sumner Marion Dodge was born on January 8, 1859 in Postville, Iowa. He came with his parents to Mitchell County when he was 8 years of age and lived on a farm near Orchard until 1914, when he moved to Osage.

Early in life he united with the Stillwater Congregational church and worshipped there until he moved to Osage.

On December 19, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Kate Hoisington of Orchard, and to this union were born six children, all of whom with the widow survive: John Dodge, who lives on the old homestead near Orchard; Mrs. T. A. Brookins, living near Bassett; Raymond of Clear Lake; Mrs. Ralph W. Smith, Irving and Howard of Osage. Their devotion to their loved one has been unstinted and helped him in a large measure to bear the long, weary hours of pain. Mr. Dodge is also survived by one brother, Frank Dodge of Charles City.

The funeral was held Tuesday after in the Shelledy funeral home with the Rev. E. B. Frye in charge and burial was here.
