Mathilda Tesch

Mathilda Augusta Tesch (nee Groth)was the daughter of John and Johanna Groth. She was the eldest of ten children, and was born August 28, 1885, at Mitchell, Iowa. A few days later, on September 3, she was baptized, after the necessary instructions in the doctrines of the Christian religion, she was confirmed March 26, 1899 in the Immanuel Lutheran church at St. Ansgar, Iowa.

September 20, 1906, the deceased was united in marriage with Otto E. Tesch, at St. Ansgar, Iowa. Together with her husband, she made her home on a farm in Union township, Mitchell county one and a half miles southeast of Toeterville. Here she lived the rest of her life, more than 27 years.

Her marriage was blessed with eleven children, six girls and five boys. Twin boys preceded her in death in infancy. These children, who with her husband, constitute the immediate survivors of the departed: Elwin of Otranto; Matie, (Mrs Leslie Torney), of Osage; Elsie (Mrs Lawrence Decklever), of Osage; Agnes (Mrs. Lloyd Decklever), of Osage; Otto, Elizabeth, Rudolph, Margaret, and Mathilda, all at home.
She is also survived by two grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Johanna Groth, of St. Ansgar; and five sisters and four brothers; Mrs. H. Pagel, St. Ansgar; Mrs. A. Frese, Osage; Mrs. H. Frese, Osage; Mrs. E. Baldner, of Union township; Henry, St. Ansgar; August, St. Ansgar; Robert, St. Ansgar; Erwin, Lyle, Minn.; and Mrs. P. Behl, St. Ansgar.

Her father preceded her in death June 21, 1919.

A week ago last Saturday the departed was taken ill with pneumonia. A relapse on Thursday of last week, together with a weak heart made her condition very serious. In the night of from Thursday to Friday, she partook of Holy Communion. It was not the Lord's will that she should recover. She passed away Saturday morning at the age of 48 years, 5 months and 6 days.
