Mildred "Millie" Thome

Mildred Susan Thome, age 96, of Osage, died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a time for sharing at 7:00 p.m.

Mildred was born January 7, 1923, in Meyer, Iowa, the daughter of Mathias and Mary (Meurer) Gerhartz. She attended school in Meyer.

On September 14, 1944, Mildred married Ralph Thome at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer. They were just a few days away from celebrating 72 years, when Ralph died on September 10, 2016. She cared for her family as they grew, she later cooked and baked at the Maple Inn in Osage. Mildred was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Guild in Osage. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking, playing cards, reading and family gatherings.

Mildred is survived by her eight children, Charles (Diane) Thome of Mason City, Allan (Karel) Thome of Mason City, Mary Rose (Ken) Benson of Mason City, Timothy (Colleen) Thome of Columbus, Ohio, Thomas (Karen) Thome of Osage, Elaine Schwab of Osage, James (Rhonda) Thome of Plymouth and Laurie (Mark) Lichty of Dunkerton; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Helen French and Cindy Dailey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Vernon (Imelda) Mayer, Ray (Lorena) Panhoff, Mary Thome and Emilie (Wayne) Gerlock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Thome; grandson, Allan Thome II; sister, Kathleen Freund; son-in-law, Ron Schwab; sisters-in-law, Mary Young, Arlene Thome and Margie Mayer; brothers-in-law, Jim French, Jack Dailey, Gene Mayer, Joe Thome, Ben Thome, Tony Young, Larry Hayungs and Joe Freund.
