Mary Ann (Karwac) Schallock, age 88, of Osage, Iowa, passed away Monday, March, 18, 2019, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery. Following services, there will be a lunch and time to greet the family.
Mary Ann Schallock was born June 18, 1930, in Osage, Iowa, to John and Juanita (Cook) Karwac. She attended schools in Osage and graduated from Osage High School in 1948. Mary married Clarence Schallock on September 5, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. To this union were born three sons: Jon, Mark and Dennis. Jon passed away in 1965. Mary was employed at the Home Trust Bank for 23 years, retiring in 1995. Clarence passed away in January of 1995.
She loved to travel with her special friend, Marge Hewitt, and she enjoyed a “dream trip” in 2002 out west. Mary loved taking care of the elderly and going to visit people in the nursing homes. She was a very loving and compassionate person and the people she cared for truly loved her. She was a fun person and had a good sense of humor. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren, Ryan, Keely and Allison, whom she adored, and she had a deep love for her sons, Mark and Dennis.
Mary also cared about those less fortunate than her and “took in” youngsters when they were having problems at home. She loved animals and gave generously to the Humane Society and other charitable organizations. Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Osage V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her son, Jon Michael; her parents, John and Juanita Karwac; brother, Jerry (Dolores) Karwac; and her beloved dog, Max.
Mary is survived by her sons, Mark (Cindy) Schallock of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and Dennis Schallock of Osage; grandchildren, Ryan Schallock, Keely (Aaron) Hendrickson and Allison (Chris) Stefonowicz; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Schallock and Phyllis Schallock; and several nieces and nephews.
