Gunval Leonard Olsen was born August 14, 1866 at Rustad Lykkja, Hurdal, Akershus, Norway to Inge Lovise Gulbrandsdatter and Ole Kristoffersen of Rustad, the sixth of their eight children.

He was baptized on September 30, 1866 and confirmed on September 25, 1881 at Hurdal, Akershsus, Norway. Birth/baptismal record found in Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Hurdal in Hurdal, Akershus, Norway 1860-1877, pg 36, entry # 63. Baptismal Sponsors: Anders Kristophersen Rustad; Andreas Christiansen; Gulbrand Olsen; Karen Gulbrandsdatter; Marthe Kristophersdatter.

Gunvald left Akershus, Norway with his parents and siblings to emigrate to America in the fall of 1886. Believe they first went to Minnesota and then moved to Iowa where they settled in November on a farm in Newburg township.

Gunvald married Karin Abrahamson on November 23, 1901 at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Gunvald L Olsen died on either April 25 (or 28th?), 1932 at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at First Lutheran Cemetery, St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
