A 72 year-old retired Riceville farmer, Al Steffen, died April 28, 1983 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, after a brief illness. Services for Steffen were held on Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, Iowa.

Burial with military honors was at Calvary Cemetery, also in Riceville. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Constance, of Riceville; four sons: Almond Steffen, Jr., of Waterloo, Iowa, Vincent of Messepa, Minnesota, Emmett (Pat) of Reno, Nevada, and Owen (Jack) of Garden Grove, California; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five brothers: Arthur of Greenwood, Wisconsin, Fred of Riceville, Joseph of Waterloo, Mike of Lime Springs, and Raymond of Orchard; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Royek of Charles City, Iowa.

Lindstrom Funeral Home of Riceville was in charge of arrangements.
