ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Robert Collier, 96, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Rhoda Preston officiating.

Burial will be in Newburg Cemetery, Carpenter. Military honors will be conducted by the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion.

Visitation will be after 12:30 p.m. the day of the service at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary--
Robert was born on January 14, 1918, in Greeneville, Missouri, to Edwin O. and Hazel (Michels) Collier. He attended school in Minnesota and graduated from Varina, Iowa, High School. He attended Business College in Omaha, Nebraska.

Robert married Marjory Gailey on April 6, 1940 in Pomeroy, Iowa.

He worked for Sun Home Farms, Albert City, Iowa and also John Deere Tractor Works, Waterloo, Iowa. Bob was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1945, being stationed on the U.S. Henry T. Allen in the Philippine Islands during combat.

Bob farmed with his brother Roland, near Albert City, Iowa after the war until 1952. He purchased a farm west of St. Ansgar in 1952 which was the family home until 1970’s and then moved to a plot of land on the farmstead and built a new home where they resided until 2001. While farming in the St. Ansgar area, he accepted a District Manager position with Nachurs Fertilizer Company and work that along with farming until retirement.

They moved to Worth Living in 2001 and resided there until 2004 at which time Bob and Marjory went to live with their daughter and son-in-law in Waverly, Iowa. Marjory passed away shortly and Bob continued to live there until April of 2007 when he move to the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Robert was devoted to his wife and family. Fishing was a passion with him. He never forgot the good years on his farm and acreage and would have family take him for drives past them several times a year. He became an avid reader of the Bible after entering the Good Samaritan Center, reading through the entire Bible many times during his seven years as a resident. He also read other Christian books and shared them with staff and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjory of 64 years; two infant children; his parents; his wife’s parents; two sisters, Lucy Kuklenz Hersom and Edna Dilworth; a brother Roland; four brothers-in-law, Clarence Kuklenz, Martin Dilworth, Lynn Hersom and Wait Gailey; several nephews and a niece.

Robert is survived by four children; Dortha (Larry) Winer of Waverly, Iowa, Edwin (Diane) Collier of St. Ansgar, Justin (Sue) Collier of Grimes, Iowa, and Margie Fricke of Waverly, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Alice Collier and Mary Lee Gaily Marshall; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
