Lawrence J. Weinberger, age 95, of Osage, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at his home in Osage.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a vigil service at 8:00 p.m.
Lawrence was born May 28, 1919, on the family farm near Osage, Iowa, the son of Robert and Mary (Hovel) Weinberger. He attended rural schools in the Osage area. On March 8, 1943, he married Dolores Rogers at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. They began their married life on the Weinberger farm west of Osage. This union was blessed with four children: Margaret, Virginia “Ginger”, Kenneth, and Theresa “Terri”.
Lawrence had many interests but first and foremost was the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Lawrence and Dolores took many bus trips in the United States and enjoyed their trips to Germany, Austria, and Ireland. He also enjoyed playing pool, woodworking, camping, fishing, playing cards, and visiting with relatives and friends. Lawrence always looked forward to attending the yearly draft horse show.
Lawrence is survived by his children, Margaret Hellman and special friend, George Simpson of Belmond, Virginia (Richard) Meirick of New Haven, Kenneth (Joellyn) Weinberger of Osage, Theresa Beland and fiancé, Michael Pitt of Northwood; 13 grandchildren, Mary (Jesse) Gamble, Eddie Hellman, Chris (Kristine) Meirick, Laura (Tony) Wynohrad, Angie (Derrick) Huffman, Beth (Kevin) Mitchell, John Meirick and special friend, Andrea Pearce, Cory (Michelle) Weinberger, Alicia (Jason) Trout, Jamie Beland, Jeff (Steph) Beland, Katie (Tom) Koenigs, Sunsett Reynolds and special friend, Aaron Staver; 24 great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Urban Rogers of Sante Fe, New Mexico, and Jim (Mildred) Rogers of Osage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores Weinberger in 2009; grandson, Aaron Weinberger; great-granddaughter, Jasmine Jo Beland; brother, Louis Weinberger; and sisters, Rose Chisholm and Mabel Rogers.
