Dean Robert Nuehring, age 86, of Osage, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Eden Presbyterian Church, 3105 Glass Avenue, rural Rudd, with Pastor Jennifer Suydam officiating. Burial will be in Eden Presbyterian Cemetery with Military Honors by the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Dean was born April 17, 1927, on a farm near Klemme, the son of Owen and Blanche (Montgomery) Nuehring. He was educated in rural country schools in Hancock County. Dean served in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on January 21, 1947.
He was united in marriage to Elsie Gerdes at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Klemme on February 24, 1948. They lived and farmed near Nora Springs, before moving to a farm near Osage. Dean and Elsie were blessed with seven children and celebrated 56 years of marriage before she passed away in March 2005.
On August 16, 2008, he married Dorothy Brandau at Eden Presbyterian Church. Dorothy passed away in January 2013. Dean took great pride in his farming and his children were his passion. He was a member of Eden Presbyterian Church, where he served in many capacities. He enjoyed playing cards and square dancing. He was a good friend and neighbor.
Dean is survived by his daughters, Avon (Jerry) Rurup of Titonka, and children, Jodi and Jeremy; Donna (Marloe) Ellingson of Joice, and children, Karen, Jennifer and Dean; Nancy Hirota of Osage, and children, Nicole, Natalie, Nicholas and Nolan; Janet (Gerard) May of Osage, and children, Jonathan and Jeffrey; Ronda Olson of Rose Creek, Minnesota, and children Katherine and Derek; grandchildren, Amber, Stephanie and Alexander Ricke; daughter-in-law, Sharon Mihm of Wellsville, Kansas, and children, Timothy, Holly and Michael Nuehring; and 20 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, Marlan Krull, Pamela Carman, Kenneth Krull; five step great-grandchildren; his brother, Keith (Wilma) Nuehring of Webster City; his three sisters, Mavis Eckes of Long Prairie, Minnesota; Marie VerHelst of Klemme and Inez (Bruce) Dunbar of Unionville, Missouri; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie (Gerdes) Nuehring; his wife, Dorothy (Brandau) Nuehring; his son, Dennis Nuehring; his daughter, Brenda Ricke; four sisters and four brothers.
