A.J. RECKNER PASSED AWAY LAST TUESDAY

Highly Respected Pioneer Succumbed At His Home Here After Two Year Illness

The Community was saddened on Tuesday afternoon when the word was passed around that A. J.
Reckner, highly respected pioneer of Crosby country, had passed away at his home in this city, at two o'clock. He had been in failing health for the past two years and death was the result of a cancer. Of late, he suffered a great deal, but the end came peacefully and was a relief, both to the patient and the loved ones who were constantly at his side and who dreaded to see the pain he had to bear.

Funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian church in Crosby on Friday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m. , with Rev. Thos. Adam officiating at the last sad rites. Burial will be in the cemetery southeast of town, where the remains will be committed to the grave by members of the Crosby lodge of Masons, with A Truax acting as Worshipful Master, Pall bearers will be P.N. Johnson, A.U. Anderson, F. E. Carlson, R. M. Bergem, John Otheim and Calvin Andrist. The Jacobsen Funeral Home will have charge of the arrangements.

Albert J. Reckner was born at Riceville, Iowa, on the 25th day of August, 1869. He farmed in the vicinity of Riceville for a time and for twelve years, was employed on a farm owned by W.J. Kimball (Kimball Piano manufacturer).

He was united in marriage to Miss Roselle Sloan on June 13th, 1892, at Mclntire, Iowa, and they managed a hotel and also farmed in that community for about nine years.

In 1906, the family came to Divide County and settled on a homestead southwest of Ambrose, but later they sold this farm and purchased another southwest of Crosby, in Troy Township, where they lived for several years. They moved into Crosby in 1923 and for the past nineteen years, he had conducted an insurance agency here which enjoyed a fine business.

In addition to his sorrowing widow, he is survived by four sons, and one daughter, namely, Lindon and Lloyd of Chicago, III.; Donald of Crosby; Mrs. R. Homestead of Tacoma, Wash., and Ashley (Jim) who is serving somewhere in Italy with the Armed Forces. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. H. Niles of Seattle, Wash., and twelve grandchildren. Two brothers and four sisters have preceded him in death.

A.J. Reckner was a man who was well liked by all who knew him. He was honest and upright in all his dealings with his fellowmen and was a good friend and neighbor. In 1892, he became a Master Mason at Osage, Iowa, and in 1915, demitted to Crosby lodge, being one of the charter members of that organization. In 1928, he was elected as a life member of Crosby lodge, and until his health began to fail, was a faithful attendant to all meetings.

Mr. and Mrs. Reckner celebrated their golden wedding a little over a year ago, when most of the members of the family were present.

The Journal joins with the many friends of the Reckner family in extending most sincere sympathy to the loved ones who are left to mourn the passing of a kind and loving husband and father.
