Funeral services for John Von Bergen, 87, long time resident of this community, who died at his home suddenly at noon on April 13, 1951, were held April 16 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. O.A. Langehough officiating.

The late Mr. Von Bergen was born March 3, 1864 in Mieringen, Canton Bern, Switzerland, the son of Johann and Katharine Von Bergen. He was baptized at an early age and in 1878 was confirmed in the Lutheran church.

At the age of 18 he came to the United States, residing in New York state for a number of years.

On August 22, 1896 he was married to the former Bertha Stangohr at the Grafton Lutheran church. To this union five children were born.

Mr. Von Bergen lived most of his married life on a farm in Mitchell county until 1922 when he moved to Otranto. The Von Bergens had lived in St. Ansgar for the past eleven years.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Bertha) Comer of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Alvin (Ruth) Johnson of Orchard and one granddaughter, Doris Johnson.

Mr. Von Bergen was preceded in death by one daughter and two sons.

Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery with Rev. O.A. Langehough in charge of committal services.

Pallbearers were Chris Klindt, Carl I. Dahl, Arthur Trettin, Gus Stelter, Clarence Thorson and George Glassel.

RETIRED FARMER DIES;
RITES AT ST. ANSGAR

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Funeral services for John Von Bergen, 87, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran church, with burial in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery. He died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in St. Ansgar while reading a newspaper Friday.

Survivors include the widow, daughters Mrs. Claude Comer of. . .

Mr. Von Bergen was born in Switzerland, and came to the United States when he was 19 years old and settled near Grafton. He was married in 1896 to Bertha Stanghr at Grafton. They farmed in this vicinity and in 1920 sold their farm near Otranto and moved to St. Ansgar where they since resided.
