DEATH OF JAMES THOMPSON

Seldom has there come to St. Ansgar news which has brought greater sorrow than that which reached here last Wednesday of the death of James Thompson at Kansas City. It appears that he had an attack of appendicitis last October but speedily recovered. On the fourth of March he was taken with another attack and went to the hospital and it was thought that he was improving, however there were other complications and it was not so to be. The physician who attended him wrote that the immediate cause of his death was the rupture of the appendix. Mr. A.N. Lund immediately went to Kansas City and accompanied his remains home and the funeral which was largely attended, was held on Monday at the U.N.L. Church and his mortal remains were laid to rest in the Cemetery north of town.

James was born in St. Ansgar March 11, 1888 and therefore lacked just one day of being 21 at the time he died. Here he grew to manhood, and received his education in the schools at this place.

Three years ago the 21st of this month he went to Kansas City and took a position in the C.G.W. depot. A few months later he secured a better one at the C.M.& St. P. depot, and remained here until his last sickness, having been promoted several times, having been billing clerk for some time. James was one of the truest young men that ever went out from St. Ansgar and it was indeed a comfort to his mother that she received so many assurances from his pastor and associates there that he never yielded to the temptations of the city life which are a snare to so many. They held a brief service for him before his remains were taken away, and the Luther League from that place with their floral offering sent this beautiful verse:
I have finished my course, I have kept the faith,
I have fought the fight, Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown.

Card of Thanks
We wish to express in this manner our most sincere thanks to the many kind friends for their aid and sympathy in our hour of trouble and sorrow in the loss of our dear son and brother.
