Funeral services were held January 3, 1946 at the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar for Mrs. Josephine Swanson, the Rev. O.A. Langehough officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery beside her husband.
Mrs. Josephine Thompson Swanson was born on November 1, 1868 in Granven, Norway. Together with her parents, she came to America in 1886. On June 10, 1889, she was united in marriage to Louis Swanson in Faulton, South Dakota. In 1896 they came to Iowa and settled on a farm five and one-half miles northwest of St. Ansgar, living there until 1919 when they purchased a home in St. Ansgar.
Mr. Swanson passed away November 1, 1941.
On September 19, 1945, she was admitted as a resident of the Aase Haugen home near Decorah, Iowa, being unable to care for her own home due to infirmities of age. She became ill with an attack of influenza on December 26 and was taken to the city hspital in Decorah where she passed away on December 31, 1945.
Mrs. Swanson had been a faithful member of the First Lutheran congregation since 1901.
She leaves to mourn her passing, one sister, Mrs. Paul Naig of Enderlin, North Dakota, and a number of nieces and nephews.
