OBITUARY-ROOT
Charles Frederick Root departed this life at the home of his niece, Mrs. Herbert Dodge, on March 21, 1917. For over a year his health had been failing, and after taking treatment at the hospital at Osage for some time, and then removing to Charles City to his brother's and finding his general condition no better, he went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dodge.
For a time it was thought he was on the mend, and hopes were entertained that he might recover, but a relapse came and on March 21st he passed to the beyond.
Mr.Root was born Sept. 1, 1856, at Clayton, N.Y., and, with his parents, came to Mitchell county, Iowa, and located near Orchard in the fall of 1857. His boyhood and youth were spent in this community, and with his parents he was a regular attendant at the Lincoln church. For fifteen years he was the rural mail carrier from Orchard. His life has been lived with you, and you know him best as being honest and straight in all of his official relations. At the time of his death, he was 60 years, 6 months and 20 days of age, and the suffering through which he has passed during the last year or so has been very severe.
We trust that he is now free from sorrow and pain, and that God will lend him to living fountains of water and wipe all tears from his eyes.
