Adolph C. Paulson was born in Hanover, Germany, December 4, 1824. Upon war breaking out between Germany and Denmark in 1848, he enlisted; but owing to the shortness of the war, he was not mustered into service.

He moved to Denmark in 1852 and married Johanna M. Lund in the spring of 1854. He remained in Denmark till the spring of 1879 when he emigrated to America with his family and settled at St. Ansgar where he and his family have remained ever since. He lived with Mr. A.N. Lund on a farm east of town for 18 years, and moved with them to town 15 years ago. Mr. Paulson enjoyed very good health till the beginning of last year. During his wife's illness he lost strength rapidly. His health was especially poor after her funeral, soon after which he had to call medical assistance. At 5:30 Saturday evening, February 13, he was taken very suddenly ill and died a few minutes later without any suffering.

For a man of his age, Mr. Paulson was unusually active. He enjoyed life and spent much of his time in reading-he read several languages. The night before his death he read until ten o'clock. During the long illness of his life companion he enjoyed reading to her the blessed Gospel and beautiful hymns. For nearly fifty years the two faced the problems of life side by side and within a few days after tempral separation they were re-united never again to know separation.

All who knew Mr. Paulson knew him to be a man of uprightness and honesty. Though not as a rule demonstrative, his love for his family was great and manifested in many ways. His little great-grandchildren were a source of much joy to him. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Mary Fedson and a stepson, Mr. A.N. Lund, who, because of the death of his father when he was six months old, has known to other father than Mr. Paulson. The funeral was held at the N.L. church on February 17, at 10:30 A.M., Rev. Waldeland officiating. For the Norwegian sermon he took for his text Eph. 2:14-15. Mr. Pauson's favorite was read at the end of the serman. The text for the English sermon was taken from the comforting words which Job utters in Job 19:25-27. The remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery.
