Osage – Funeral rites were here Saturday for Mrs. Myrtle Austin, 74, who died in a Waterloo hospital, having been ill for several months.
Nee Myrtle DeFord, daughter of John and Elizabeth DeFord, she was born near New Haven, south of Osage, in March, 1872.
She attended the local school and in 1889 was married to Clyde Dean of Wisconsin.
In 1901, she was married to Clifford Austin and the couple established its first home near Osage, retiring to Osage in 1915.
She was employed for many years at the Osage Cleaners, as seamstress. The last few years she spent intermittently at Osage, and at Waterloo with her daughter, Mrs. Della Morse.
She leaves a daughter, three grandchildren and two great- grand-children.
Preceding her in death were one daughter; Mrs. Raymond Dodge; four sisters and one brother; Matt DeFord.
Mrs. Austin was the last member of the DeFord family.
