(NOTE: Iver - born 3rd October 1827 in Sogndal parish, Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway.
Parents: Niels Pedersen and Kistine Pedersdatter.

Another of St. Ansgar's oldest and most respected citizens has been called to his reward. This time it was Mr. Iver Nelson who answered to the summons from the great beyond. Death came to him without warning in the night and he passed from this life to the next without a struggle and apparently without a pain. He has been making his home with his son-in-law, Ole Tidemanson, two miles south of St. Ansgar. Last Friday he was apparently as well and healthy as ever and he had always been a healthy man, having never, as far as we have been able to learn, been confined to his bed for a single day. Friday evening he ate rather more than usual. The next morning he failed to arise at the usual time and about eight-thirty they went to his room to call him, when, alas, they found that he was dead. Dr. Culmsee was hastily called and he decided that apoplexy was the cause of his death.

Iver Nelson was born in the parish of Sogen, Norway, October 3, 1827. He grew to manhood in his native country. When a young man he decided to join the large number of young men who were seeking their fortunes in the new world, and in 1851 came to America settling at Stoughton, Wisconsin, where he remained one year. Then he decided to go further west where the country was newer and the opportunities greater, consequently he came to West Union, Iowa in 1852. In 1854, having heard of the beautiful country in this vicinity, he visited St. Ansgar. However, as he had no acquaintances here he decided to return to Winnesheik county and settled near Calmar, purchasing a farm there. In 1851 he married at Calmar to Ingeborg N. Rosby. In 1867 they sold their farm there and came to Mitchell Co., settling on a farm two miles south of St. Ansgar, which continued to be their home till 1890, when they moved to St. Ansgar to take life easier. Four years ago his wife died. Since that time he has been making his home mostly with his daughter, Mrs. H. K. Dahl, but the last few months has resided with his oldest daughter, Mrs. O. Tidemanson.

Seven children remain to mourn his loss. These are Nels I., one of the most prominent business men of Lake Mills, Narve E., also a prominent business man of Lake Mills, and Ole I., who has been in the United States army for the past four years, but is now residing at Lake Mills; Mrs. Ole Tidemanson, of south of St. Ansgar; Mrs. H. K. Dahl, of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Theodore Narveson, of Albert Lea, and Mrs. Sever Nelson of St. Ansgar.

Mr. Nelson was one of the leading and most devoted members of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of this place always placing a strict observance of religious duties above every thing elso. He was one of the most honest and conscientious members of the community and his influence was always on the side of right.

The funeral, which was largely attended, was held at the Norwegian Lutheran Chruch in St. Ansgar at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. Olsen, in the Norwegian language and Rev. Waldeland in the English language. His remains were laid to rest in the N.L. cemetery of St. Ansgar.
