MRS. M.S. STACY
DIED THIS MORNING
AT ADVANCED AGEMrs. Milton S. Stacy died this morning at her home in the Second Ward at the advanced age of 91, after a period of failing health. She had lived in this immediate community for sixty-four years, and witnessed the many changes in our national life from Civil War days to the present. There are left but few of her pioneer contemporaries.
Marietta Folsom was born in Champlain, New York, April 9, 1847, and passed away at her home in Osage on September 22, 1938, gaving reached the advanced age of 91 years. She came with her parents to Wisconsin while yet a young girl, and there met Milton S. Stacy, with whom she was united in marriage on Dec. 8, 1864.
To this union five children were born, Mrs. Ella Crosby, of Osage; Mrs. Jessie Leiben, Portland, Oregon; John Stacy, McIntire; Miss Florence Stacy and Mrs. Leland A. Smith, both of Osage.
Mrs. Stacy, with her husband and family, came from Wisconsin and established their home at Mitchell, Iowa, in 1866, where Mr. Stacy was engaged in business, remaining there until 1873 when the family moved to Osage, and this has been the home of Mrs. Stacy ever since. In fact, except for one winter during which the family lived on Main Street -- in the vicinity where the Gilles Food Market is now located -- Mrs. Stacy lived in the present home continuously since 1874.
On March 3, 1877, she united with the Congregational Church of Osage, and during her entire lifetime (except in her recent declining years) she was an active support in all its activities, and for many years was an earnest and faithful Sunday school teacher. . . .
Mrs. Stacy loved th eties of her home life, an dduring her declining years had the constant presence of two daughters, Mrs. Crosby and Miss Florence, and these, together with her daughters, Mrs. Leland A. Smith and Mrs. Leiben, and her son, John, have made her life beautiful and bright.
The service of last rites will be held Saturday forenoon at the Champion funeral home, conducted by her pastor, Rev. S. Lessly, and burial will be made in the Osage City Cemetery.
