IDA M. JOHNSTON

Ida M. Johnston, born in Osage, Iowa, passed away in Long Beach, California on June 11. SHe was the daughter of William S. and Asenath M. Johnston who were born in the state of Maine, and who were among the pioneer residents of this community. She attended the local schools and afterwards followed the profession of seamstress, and was a familiar figure in many of the Osage homes where she followed her profession.

Later she entered the employ as saleslady in Wood and Hastings store and in the Goplerud Department Store, where she made many acquaintances. After many years in this connection she resigned her position in the Goplerud store to become the personal companion of Mrs. Phebe Ann Cole, and after her death she went to California to make her home.

Miss Johnston united with the Congregational Church in Osage on May 28, 1881, afterwards transferring her membership to Long Beach. She also was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter of Osage, her membership bearing a date of 1897.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at Long Beach. Commital service will be held in the Osage Cemetery, at the family lot, Sunday afternoon, by Rev. Stiles Lessly.
