Martha Aschens Ivarsdatter was born January 8, 1847 at Askimeiet, Gran, Hadeland, Oppland, Norway to Iver Nilsen and Anne Nielsdatter. She married Torger Rossum June 19, 1873 at Hadeland, Norway.

The couple emigrated to Rock, Mitchell, Iowa in 1883. They had six children, five lived to adulthood. They were: Iver (married Ida Eleanora Ask); Lizzie (married James H Harding); Bertha Marie (married Wilhelm Barnard Ask); Anton (married Ella Motland); and Tillie (married Clarence A. Helm).

Martha died June 5, 1920 at either Falls, Cerro Gordo, IA or Rock, Mitchell, Iowa. She is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, IA.
