Mrs. E. Schmidt Dies at Age 83
Last Rites Held at Emmanuel LutheranGRAFTON — Mrs. Elizabeth Schmidt's funeral was held last Wednesday at Emmanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. A. J. Seegers in charge.
Mrs. Forrest Urbatsch was soloist. Pallbearers were Armand and Raymond Walk, John Bork, Albert Krider, Walter Wagner and Arnold Buechele. Burial was in the Grafton cemetery.Those from a distance at the rites were Mrs. Minnie Gordon and Mrs. Howard Hall, Austin; Florenc Schmidt and Marian Hall, Rochester, the Rev. Carl Schmidt and son Clare, Stanhope, Iowa, and the Ralph Allen family of Eagle Grove.
Mrs. Schmidt was born April. 2, 1873, on a farm in Mitchell County to Julius and Bertha Fehrmann Schilling. She was Baptized and confirmed at St. John's church. The family soon moved to a farm near Plymouth where she spent her teens in 1892 the family moved to the town of Plymouth.
She was married Sept. 12, 1895, to Alfred R. Schmidt, and the couple began farming four miles south of Grafton. They reared ten children there and retired to Grafton after they had farmed 31 years. Nineteen years later, in 1946, Mr. Schmidt died.
Last April her health failed and she was taken into the home her eldest daughter, Mrs. Albert, Tabbert. She died at the Osage hospital, where she was taken ten days before her death.
Mrs. Schmidt is survived by five daughters and four sons, Mrs. Albert (Edna) Tabbert, Osage; Herman, Grafton; Arthur, St. Ansgar; Alfred, Manly; Emil, Mason City; Mrs. Lloyd (Esther) Borchardt, Riceville; Mrs. Alvin (Elizabeth) Borchardt, Plymouth, Mrs. Harvey (Elsie) Felton, Nora Springs, and Mrs. Herman (Evelyn) Rekow, Osage.
One daughter, Mrs. Erma Wilde, preceded her in death.
There are 32 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. One surviving sister, Mrs. Theresa Johnson, lives at Durante, Calif.#2
