Obituary:
Marcella Mary (Gilles) Sprung was taken home to the Lord on June 26th at the age of 92.

Marcella was born October 30, 1918, in New Haven, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Nora (Fox) Gilles. After graduating from high school she worked as a cook at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, MN and at her brother Gib's grocery store in Riceville. She married Robert Sprung on June 27, 1939 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gilbert and John, one sister, Regina McCarville; her husband, Robert; a daughter, DeEtta; and a daughter-in-law, Denise.

Survivors include four sons: Daniel (Jayne) and Randal (Dana) of Riceville, IA; Wendel (Connie) of Rose Creek, MN; Lowell (Inge) of Palm Bay, FL; two daughters: Rita Merritt (William) of Sierra Vista, AZ ; Debra Ahlstrom (William) of Oak Creek, WI; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Marcella was dedicated to her family and faith. Among other things, she milked cows and drove tractor during the 50 years she and Robert farmed. She was a 4-H leader and was active in the Ladies Aid Society both at St. Mel's in McIntire and Immaculate Conception in Riceville. She never forgot her days as a Campfire Girl and enjoyed the outdoors - particularly doing cookouts and fishing. She played trombone and piano and loved to sing. She instilled her love of music in her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, a prolific quilter and crocheter, a talented seamstress, a marvelous cook and baker, a good friend to many, and a loving and wonderful Mother and Grandmother.

Memorials:

The family requests memorials be given to the Wapsi-Great Western Line Bike Trail in Riceville in lieu of flowers

Visitation:

Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Sunday July 24th. during the hours of 4-6 p.m. with Rosary at 5:30 P.M.

Service:

A memorial mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville on Monday July 25, 2011,at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Msgr. Stanley J. Hayek officiating.

Cemetery:
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
