Ex-St. Ansgar men
among lake deadEARFALLS, ONTARIO (UPI) — The body of a Baudette, Minnesota, man formerly from Iowa was pulled from Packwash Lake here Monday.
Virgil Adrian was one of three moose hunters feared drowned. Adrain, Avery Knuteson, 34, Austin, Minnesota, and Leo Valiquette, Rainy River, Ontario, were last seen Thursday heading out of camp on a hunting excursion. Their boat was found overturned during the weekend and Adrian's body was located Monday morning.
Earfalls authorities said there was little chance the other two had escaped drowning since the boat was found close to their camp site.
Adrian and Knuteson originally were both from St. Ansgar, Iowa. Knuteson's parents live in St. Ansgar.
Funeral services for Virgil Adrian will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, following services Wednesday at Baudette. Burial will be in the Carpenter Cemetery.
Born April 26, 1913 at St. Ansgar, to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Adrian, he was married in 1939 to Ossie Hollatz of Carpenter. They farmed in the Osage and Carpenter area until buying the resort in Baudette 10 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, five daughters, Fay, Judy, Marlene and Darlene, twins; and Sharon, his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Rodney (Irene) Proett and Mrs. Bill (Dorthaleen) Jeffers, all of Santa Monica, California.
