JOSEPH D. MALECEK

NEW HAVEN, IOWA - Joseph D. Malecek, 57, of rural New Haven, died suddenly Wednesday (Dec. 8, 1999) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Joseph was born on March 3, 1942, in Pocahontas, the son of Joseph and Jane (Point) Malecek. He was educated and graduated from the Pocahontas Catholic School in 1960. He attended Loras College.

He married Marlys Bartosh on June 23, 1962, in Pocahontas. They lived and farmed in Pocahontas until 1966, when they moved to a farm near New Haven and continued farming. Joseph was also employed at TOPS Business Forms since 1984.

He was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church and was ranger of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a former president of the Mitchell County Cattleman's Association.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in New Haven.

Visitation will be held from 2 until 9 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. scripture service and an 8:15 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary. Visitation will also be held on Saturday until 9:30 a.m. at Champion Funeral Home.

Joseph is survived by his mother, Jane Malecek, of Pocahontas; his wife, Marlys, of New Haven; one daughter, Nancy Sandwisch and her husband, Todd and their children, Trent and Emily, of Frisco, Texas; three sons, Joseph Malecek and his wife, Joan and their children, Lindsey, Lauren, Jenna, Josie, Joseph, John and Jessica, of Osage; Dennis Malecek and his wife, Rhonda and their children, Marcus, Madison and Drew, of Cottage Grove, Minn. and David Malecek, of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Linda Olson and her husband, Dennis, of Pocahontas; and one brother, Mike Malecek and his wife, Phyllis, of Pocahontas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph.
