Rites Held for Gifford Swan
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage for Gifford Swan, 83, who died at the Floyd County Hospital in Charles City June 6, 1980, following a long illness.
The Rev. George Hope, pastor of the Baptist Church, was in charge of services with burial at the Osage Cemetery.

Gifford Swan was born Dec 20, 1896 on a farm north of New Haven where he lived his entire life. He was the son of Edward E. and Gertrude McKinney Swan. He attended the rural school and Osage High School.

Gifford Swan and Leona Almquist were married July 13, 1922 in Houston, Minn. Mr. Swan actively farmed until 1948. He owned and operated an implement business in New Haven for 16 years.

Mr. Swan had served as township trustee, was a life member of the Veterans of World War I, the American Legion and the Osage Masonic Lodge 102.

He is survived by his wife Leona; two daughters, Mrs. B. A. Cagle (Shirley), Plainfield, Ind., and Mrs. W. F. Brown (Betty) from LaGrange,Ill.; five grandchildren: Steven Cagle from Cedar Rapids; Philip Cagle, Silvia, Ill.; Willa Schultz and Sue Ellen Schultz from Brookfield, Ind; Charlene Fitzpatrick, Lake Tahoe, Calif; and two great grandsons; one brother, John Swan from Los Angeles, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Hazel Dickson from Ames.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stanley Swan.
