OSAGE RESIDENT DIES; SERVICES TO BE FRIDAY

Osage – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Osage Lutheran church for Paul Hvattum, 79, who died Wednesday morning at his home in Osage. Service will be in charge of the Rev. T. P. Solem, with burial in the Osage cemetery.

Born in Norway, he came to America with his parents, at the age of two. They settled in Rock township, Mitchell county, and there he attended school. He was confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church.

On July 12, 1908, he was married to Sophia Amundrud, and they made their home in Cedar township until the year, 1919, when they retired to Osage.

Surviving are his wife, Sophia Amundrud Hvattum, one daughter, Mrs. Jurgen Tebben, and three grandchildren.

Paul Hovelsen Hvattum ​was born May 25, 1865 at Skje​rvum, Gran, Hadeland, ​Norway to Hovel Torste​nsen Hvattum & Ran​gdi Povelsdatter, the youngest of their three children.

Paul emigrated in the spring of 1868 to Mitchell Co, Iowa.

He was confirmed at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa on April 20, 1879.

Found in the 1870 census living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa: Hoovd T Vettrum 40, Rougdena Vettrum 35, Christina Vettrum 14, Thomas Vettrum 9, Paul Vettrum 5.

Found in the 1880 - 1905 censuses at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa:
1880: H. T. Hvattam 56, Rangde Hvattam 45, Thorsten Hvattam 18, Paul Hvattam 15, Borger Larsen 36.
1885: Hovel T Hvattum 60, Rangdi Hvattum 50, Thorsten Hvattum 22, Paol Hvattum 19, Cora Insend 23. 1900: Thorren Hvattum 37, Paul Hvattum 33, Rangde Hvattum 65, Sigred Lynne 20, Mouris Maudal 20, Gabriel Maudal 29.

He married Sophia Amundrud on July 12, 1908. They had one daughter, Sophia.

Paul Hvattum died​ November 1, 1944 at Osage, Mitchell,​ Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Iowa.
