RITES FOR FORMER OSAGE WOMAN
ARE HELD IN WISCONSIN

OSAGE, IOWA – Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for a former Mitchell County resident, Mrs. Emil Virchow, at Siren, Wis., with burial in the Siren Cemetery.

She was born in 1877 as Eliza Gunderson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gunder Gunderson of Rock Creek. She spent her girlhood in the Rock Creek community.

She was married to Emil Virchow and they made their home near Osage for many years, then moved to Charles City, finally moving to a farm near Siren, Wis., and six months after their change in residence, Mr. Virchow died suddenly.

She is survived by two sons, Elmo in the armed services, now home on leave; and Henry of Minneapolis; one daughter, Mrs. Shaw of Superior, Wis.; three brothers, Oscar and Theodore Gunderson of Osage, and Burt of Independence; two sisters, Mrs. H. J. Dickens of St. Froix Falls, Minn., and Mrs. Julia Schulte of Hartford, Conn., and three grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death.

Eliza Gunderson was the daughter of Gunder and Mary (Severson) Gunderson.

Note: Her mothers’ maiden name is from her two brothers Theodore and Oscar Gunderson 1925 Iowa Census. The 1900 Census: Rock, Mitchell, Iowa has her birth date as January 1878 in Iowa.
She married Emil Albert Virchow, the son of William and Amelia (Buss) Virchow of Osage.

MRS. EMIL VIRCHOW
DIES AT SIREN, WISCONSIN

Mrs. Emil Virchow, well-known in this community, died at her home at Siren, Wisconsin, Saturday, after a long illness from cancer. Her brother, Oscar Gunderson and wife went to Siren to attend the funeral serivce, held Tuesday afternoon.

Burial was made beside her husband, who passed away a few years ago.

Deceased was the former Eliza Gunderson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gunder Gunderson. She was born in Rock township and lived there until her marriage.

She is survived by three children: Elmo, at home, Mary, who is married, and Henry of Minneapolis; also by her sisters, Mrs. Julie Schulte and Mrs. Rose Dickson, the latter of Siren; and by her brothers, Oscar and Theodore Gunderson, of Osage, and Bert Gunderson of Independence.
