For Life-long Resident

Funeral services for Oscar O. Field, age 71, were held on Tuesday, April 14, [1953] at 2 p.m., at the Rock Creek Lutheran church, with the Rev. M. G. Berg of Osage and the Rev. J. O. Blanes of South Haven, Minnesota, officiating. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery.

Mr. Field, son of Ole and Inger Fjelde, was born in Cedar township, February 9, 1882. He died suddenly at his farm home at 7:45 Saturday morning, April 11, [1953], of a coronary heart attack, having been afflicted with a heart condition for many years.

He was baptized into the Lutheran faith in the Rock Creek Lutheran church by the Rev. Johan Olson and confirmed January 10, 1897, by the Rev. S. M. Stenby in the Bethelhem Lutheran church, Clear Lake, of which he was a member until his death.

He attended rural school in Cedar township, the Nora Springs Seminary, and the Illinois State Agricultural School at Urbana, Illinois.

On February 9, 1905, he was united in marriage to Caroline Olson of the Rock Creek community. They established their home on a farm in Cedar township, Mitchell county, where they have since resided for a continous period of 48 years. Two children were born to the couple, one daughter, Ina, and a son, John.

The obituary, as read at the services Tuesday, paid this tribute to Mr. Field: "He was a kind and loving husband and father, devoted to his grandchildren, and a friendly, cheerful neighbor and friend."

He continued his parents' interest in the church, especially in missions, and particularly the Santal mission in India, where he and his wife supported a native woman bible worker. He was reading "The Missionary" magazine following the family's usual morning devotions, at the time of his sudden death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Martin Field.

Surviving are his wife, Caroline; a daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Ina) Christiansen; a son, John Field, both of Nora Springs; six grandchildren; two brothers, Peter and Carl Field; in addition to many other relatives and friends.

The three older grandchildren, Carolyn and Geraldine Field and Gene Christiansen, sang "Jesus Loves Me" at the rites at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, at 1:15 Tuesday afternoon.

At the church rites, Mrs. Erling Dahley sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," one of Mr. Field's favorite hymns. Henrick and Glen Erickson of Clear Lake sang "Behold a Host". Alida Motland was the organist.

The pall bearers were Jean Olson, Robert Olson, Glenn Olson, Olaf Olson, Irving Field and Fred Shoger.
