Jean Yvonne (Edison) Schaefer, 71 of McIntire, Iowa, formerly of Austin died Thursday morning, Nov. 18, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa.
She was born on October 2, 1939, in Comfrey, Minnesota, to Otto and Ethel (Schroeder) Stark. After graduation from Redwood Falls High School in 1957, Jean attended Austin Vo-Tech where she trained to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married David Edison on March 17, 1963, in Austin. They were later divorced, and she married Michael Schaefer on July 23, 1994, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
She worked for 37 and a half years at St. Olaf Hospital which is now known as Austin Medical Center, the majority of time in obstetrics. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Eagles Club and the Adams American Legion Auxiliary, she enjoyed knitting, spending time with her grandchildren and volunteering at many functions, including Osage Hospital and Veterans Day events.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Schaefer of McIntire, Iowa; two daughters, Jane (Robert) Rascon of Albert Lea; Amy (Mike) Stephens of Rose Creek; five grandchildren, Amanda Edison; Matthew, Luke, Jacob and Hope Stephens; two sisters, Marilyn (Paul) Elwein of Brainerd, Lynette Chapman of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Dwayne Anderson of Albert Lea; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, David Edison; a brother, Dennis Stark and one sister, Kathleen Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
