Duane Barenz, age 84 , of Osage, died Friday, November 19, 2010, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2010, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Following services, cremation will take place. Inurnment will be at the Little Cedar Cemetery in Little Cedar, Iowa, with a flag presentation by the Osage American Legion Post 278.

Duane was born May 23, 1926, in Little Cedar, the son of Willis and Esther (Bensen) Barenz. He attended school in Little Cedar and graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1943. After school, Duane served in United States Army. Duane was united in marriage to Grace Gage on March 8, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Charles City. They farmed in the Little Cedar area until 1982, when they moved to their acreage on the River Road and Duane opened Barenz Rod Shop. He was a member of the Osage American Legion and the United Methodist Church. Duane enjoyed bird watching, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

Duane is survived by his wife, Grace Barenz of Osage; five children, Josanne (Doug) Six of Ames, Roxanne (Marlin) Clemens of Ogden, Dianne Menden of Ames, David (Therese) Barenz of Solon, Rita (Kent) Pitzen of Cresco; seven grandchildren, Sara and Christopher Niemand, Terry and Michelle Groesbeck, Andrew Barenz, Casandra and Alexis Pitzen; two great-grandchildren, Shayne and Abby Groesbeck;

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darrell Barenz; a brother, Clinton Barenz.
